Carl Ransom Rogers was born in Oak Park, Illinoison January 8, 1902. He completed his education at the University of Wisconsin and Union Theological Seminary. Empathy: The therapist should empathize with the client & have the wish to hear out the client’s side of the story.
Client-Centered Therapy:
When Rogers started to develop this theory, he wanted it to be a part of the system that forms steps in therapy. Initially, this theory was known as non-directive therapy, but he later changes the name of client-centered & then also used the term person-centered. Rogers was of the strong opinion that the theory he had developed could be applied to several situations & not only in the context of therapy. He had this belief beforehis Client-Centered Therapy was published in 1951. Due to this, he began to use the phrase person-centered approach while explaining his theory. In person-centered therapy, the person-centered approach is used in the therapy. This theory is also useful in personality, interpersonal relations, education, nursing, & overcome cross-cultural barriers. In 1946 the book ‘Counseling with Returned Servicemen’ was published by John L. Wallen & Roger was the co-author of it. John L. Wallen is known as the pioneer of The Interpersonal Gap model. In this book, they practiced the person-centered approach when they counseled the personnel who had returned from World War II.The effect & efficiency of the client-centered approach was documented by Elias Porter at Ohio State University. He used the recordings of the therapy sessions that were held by Rogers & his patients. With the use of Rogers’s recordings, Porter customized a method to study the degree of accuracy the counselor indulged.
